Welcome to quarry world!
Quarry solutions for producing sustainable high-quality aggregates
Every profitable quarry operation is based on mastering three main items: 1) Energy consumption 2) Operational efficiency and 3) Production quality. Check-out how Metso solutions can support you in addressing these areas and help you exceed your production targets and sustainability ambitions as well as support you in improving the overall profitability of your operation. At Metso we have a saying:
Keep the plant running, it keeps the money coming!
Benchmark Quarry Index
In aggregate operations, efficiency and cost per ton are the keys for success. The Benchmark Quarry Index (BQI) indicates where your operations are in relation to an ideal situation with similar operational variables. The calculation is based on Metso’s unique knowledge and extensive insights in aggregate crushing and screening processes. For more than 100 years, we have helped quarries and aggregate producers to excel in their operations.
Metso Benchmark Quarry (BQI) Index has 3 categories: Acceptable Energy Consumption, Operational Efficiency and Production Quality. There are only 9 questions to be answered to get your rating!
There is nothing to worry about if your quarry doesn’t get the top rating straight away. Most of the time there might be some symptoms hidden somewhere in the process which prevent the quarry to reach it’s maximum potential. In fact, if your quarry doesn’t score what you would like it to, it simply means you have the potential to improve and make more profit!
Acceptable energy consumption
Quarries consume a lot of energy when they are operating. The Benchmark Quarry Index asks the following questions regarding Acceptable Energy Consumption:
Plant total kWh/t
Total production/Feeding tonnage [t/h]
Feed material difficulty
When looking at your quarry in more detail there might be symptoms which indicate high energy consumption. The energy consumption can be higher than necessary if the quarry process has for example unnecessary closed circuits or crusher/screen control issues.
By removing some of the symptoms from the quarry operation by addressing root causes, the acceptable energy efficiency will improve and the quarry has the potential to makes more profits!
Operational efficiency
When the plant runs, the money comes or so the saying goes. The Benchmark Quarry Index asks the following questions regarding Operational Efficiency:
Utilization rate
Plant automation in use
Share of planned products of the total production
When looking at your quarry in more detail there might be symptoms which indicate low operational efficiency. The efficiency can be lower than planned if the quarry process has for example a large number of small interruptions and stoppages or an unfavorable production mode.
By removing some of the symptoms from the quarry operation by addressing root causes, the operational efficiency will improve and the quarry has the potential to makes more profits!
Production quality
The higher the stockpile, the more money can be made. The Benchmark Quarry Index asks the following questions regarding Production Quality:
Quality of the highest quality product
Quality of the bulk product
Number of sellable products
When looking at your quarry in more detail there might be symptoms which indicate challenges in production quality. The quality factor can be lower than planned if the quarry process has for example no market for certain high quality products or has a low-quality feed, making it not feasible to produce high quality products.
By removing some of the symptoms from the quarry operation by addressing root causes, the production quality will improve and the quarry has the potential to makes more profits!
